From Prompt Architect to AI Builder - Build Custom GPTs for Learning & Development
Event Overview
Beyond the Basics is a workshop series brought to you by the AI Workgroup. Join Victoria Brenes (Director of the Learning Technologies SIG and AI Workgroup at ATDSFL) and Danielle Schaff (VP of Educational Initiatives at Capitol Region ATD) for a practical, hands-on session on building Custom GPTs for learning and talent development. In this session, you’ll move beyond one-time prompts and learn how to create a reusable AI partner that understands your workflow, supports your day-to-day work, and helps you design learning faster.
This session goes beyond basic setup. We’ll show you a structured, step-by-step framework for building a Custom GPT that can support training design, content creation, and learning strategy. Together, we’ll build a Custom GPT live, and you’ll have the opportunity to create your own.
Key Concepts
Define the Role: Give your GPT a clear professional identity, tone, and expertise so it responds like a trusted instructional design partner.
Clarify the Learning Need: Build smart intake questions that gather the right context and audience details before generating content.
Design the Experience: Structure your GPT to consistently produce agendas, learning objectives, and practical application activities.
Set Quality Standards: Embed professional best practices directly into responses.
Format the Output: Ensure responses are clean and usable.
Refine Through Iteration: Turn your GPT into a collaborative partner that asks for feedback, improves drafts, and evolves over time.
