Quick Recap

This AI Workgroup session moved participants from foundational AI concepts to hands-on application of prompt engineering for learning and development (L&D). The focus was on transforming generic AI outputs into high-quality, customized instructional content using real-world workplace scenarios.

Summary

Real-World Scenario Demonstration

Steve Yudewitz, VP of Technology at ATDSFL played the role of an L&D professional needing to rapidly design a one-hour virtual training for managers on difficult conversations.

Using this example, Victoria Brenes, Director of the AI Workgroup and Learning Technologies SIG at ATDSFL introduced a five-step prompt engineering framework: assigning the expert persona, defining the task, structuring the output, setting guardrails, and iterating through reprompting.

Prompt Engineering in Action

The facilitators demonstrated how to create prompts to avoid vague or generic AI outputs, instead generating engaging instructional content. They also showed how reprompting could help generate more audience-specific content

Hands-On Breakout Sessions

Participants split into breakout rooms to practice prompt writing using different AI tools with facilitators providing guidance and feedback. The goal was for attendees to apply the five-step process to their own workplace challenges and share their results.

Sharing and Reflection

After the breakouts, participants reconvened to discuss insights and lessons learned. Victoria encouraged attendees to submit their work to the AI Project Gallery for ongoing collaboration.

Q&A and Closing

The session concluded with a Q&A, discussions about using AI for feedback and analytics in learning, and a preview of future topics.
